The deployments' XO Operating System

Dextrose is a Sugar distribution that runs on XO laptops, jointly developed by Activity Central in collaboration with OLPC and the Sugar community, with contributions from many deployments, mainly Paraguay Educa, Plan Ceibal and OLPC Australia, along with independent developers. This close relation with the real-world XO scenarios and players enables Dextrose to connect the needs of the users with the evolution of the software, achieving an important synergy that benefits all of the Sugar environment.

Our primary focus is to get the best stability and usability in the classroom, and to provide the deployments with a way to get support in a appropriate time frame, along with the merging of new features conceived in the field. In Dextrose we work closely with upstream, to make sure that any changes that might be of interest to the whole Sugar project find their way in, and also to transmit the feedback that working directly with the deployments allows us to provide.
