Roadmap

This is the roadmap for the upcoming release of SoaS, which is scheduled for release on April 10th!

target date milestone
from now on please report any issues you encounter with regard to hardware support
2009-03-30 SugarLabs will clone the Rawhide state being used for beta creation
2009-03-31 Fedora 11 Beta Release
following days testing should focus on the Sugar environment, last minute changes are allowed
2009-04-05 last day to update Sugar packages and activites to have them included
2009-04-07 internal preview, last chance to include fixes
2009-04-10 official release, marked as beta

Use cases

This is a list of ways we'll support Soas installation and their stauts. TODO: replace with a flow chart.

Sugar:

  1. From a hard disk:
    1. Local booting with storage - Implemented via various distros
    2. Local booting with external storage - unimplemented, students would insert their SoaS stick and it would load their data off it and optionally update their stick's software to the latest image
  2. On a stick:
    1. Mobile booting using USB Boot support in BIOS - implemented
    2. Mobile booting using ISO helper CDs - implemented
    3. Mobile emulation - unimplemented
    4. Combination of booting and emulation - unimplemented

Install methods

  1. Windows/Mac/Linux
    1. LiveUSB creator script - implemented
  2. Windows
    1. SoaS-emu - installer for a soas appliance on the local machine - WiP
    2. MokaFive portable player installer - investigating
  3. Other
    1. LiveCD which creates USB sticks - idea
