Images (drawings, photos, etc) can be a helpful addition to any article. Here are some important tips about uploading and using images:

I am a physicist by training. I am currently working for LIGO, an experiment to detect gravitational waves. More specifically, I am working on a project called ''Interactions in Understanding the Universe'' (I2U2), which is a confederation of the QuarkNet project at Fermilab, the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, LIGO, the ATLAS and CMS experiments for the LHC at CERN, and the Computational Institute at the University of Chicago. The goal of I2U2 is to contribute to US science education by facilitating inquiry-driven learning which makes use of real data from working physics experiments, along with the power to analyze these data using Grid computing.

One of my contributions to I2U2 is to develop "[http://tekoa.ligo-wa.caltech.edu/tla/ Bluestone]", a web-based analysis tool which mimics tools available in the LIGO control room, and which will give students direct access to LIGO evironmental data and the ability to run those data through analysis workflows.

You can easily create links to other wiki sites for which we have created inter-wiki shortcuts.
For example, the prefix <tt>:mw:</tt> in a wiki link makes it a link to the MediaWiki site rather than this glossary. A simple example of this is:

Extra text after the #REDIRECT command and link is ignored. It is rendered only in preview and in a diff.

It can be useful to put redirect pages under common alternate terms for the same topic. But don't get carried away.

Articles may be classified according to categories. Proper classification of articles can make searching the wiki much easier.

An article can be in any number of categories.

Follow a category link in the list of categories to see all the articles (pages) in that category, organized alphabetically.

The categories for an article are listed at the bottom of the page. Each is a link to a list of all pages in that category.

To put an article in a category you simply need to add a category link to the article. A category link looks like:

How you pick the categories is up to you. Be careful to choose reasonable categories that make sense for the subject matter in the wiki. Use the page [[Special:Allpages]] to get a list of all pages (articles) contained within the wiki.
You will find it in the list of [[Special:Specialpages|Special pages]], which you can ready from the Toolbox to the left of every page. 

When the list of articles is very large it can be useful to use the control at the top of the page to list only articles at or after a given article name.

The articles (pages) which make up the content of the wiki are in a default namespace called "(Main)". Other supporting pages are in other "namespaces", such as "Talk", "User", "UserTalk", "Help", "Templates", and "Category". You can also use this special page to view a list of all the pages in those special namespaces.

I am a physicist by training. I am currently working for LIGO, an experiment to detect gravitational waves. I interpreted the Help link as "help for using the wiki", but there's clearly also a need for "help for Sugar", so we'll have to sort that out, probably with a Help:Sugar page (or pages).

These help pages were developed for the I2U2 project wiki (http://www13.i2u2.org/glossary) so they are easy to add to get things started. MediaWiki also has a larger set of Help pages, but you have to add them by hand, they don't come with a fresh install. --[[User:Eric Myers|Eric Myers]] 12:43, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
