GSoC/DMP/SSoC report

As for GSoC/DMP/SSoC, this may be the final report for board meetings this year. Devin just submitted the final SSoC and DMP evaluations.

For those interested in joining any of these programs, you must prioritize meeting attendance and communication, including blog posts.

Based on survey responses from GSoC/DMP/SSoC, 100% described the community as supportive and collaborative.

In terms of skill growth, Non-Technical: 100% improved communication; 92% strengthened collaboration, time management, problem-solving and 67% strengthened cross-cultural teamwork.

AWS and infra report

MostlyK: There were no unusual activities. I actually recently ( 2 days ago) ran an autoencoder just to test out latency and everything seemed fine. The unusual request for api acess have also stopped. But we should think about moving the API to gemini by asking and involving Google perhaps. Would be much cheaper.

Walter will investigate some Google options.

Sugar systems report (migration discussion)

Srev: Systems migration - so I was volunteering to do the sunjammer.sl.o to bender.sl.o migration; primarily because of the increased reports on issues on #sugar systems - mostly due to not having enough disk space (our root disk is ~50GB); I was hoping to do it this weekend, but open to discussion.

I think I will perform a copy, and investigate the effort without switching any of the live services over, at temporary domain names (for example wiki.temp.sugarlabs.org - so that the normal wiki.sugarlabs.org continues to work, and see how that looks like for a week, before doing a downtime). re: downtime, yes - we can send an email on all the mailing lists (before the migration), thinking of doing a hard downtime/swap on 25/26th.

Election discussion

We should encourage people to run... some new contributors esp.

For those newer to our community, the way to run is (1) become a member (details here: https://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Sugar_Labs/Members) and (2) announce your candidacy on the wiki, such as https://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Oversight_Board/2025-2026-candidates

Releases

Sebastian Silva asked: Do we plan a release (of Sugar desktop / suite) or is there any way that the board can help a "release" happen? Something to highlight recent work and remind the community we exist? Perhaps we can show our interest on the still developing GTK4 and wayland versions?

Walter: We still use Fedora release cycles. Ibiam is the responsible party, with help from James.
