GSoC/DMP updates

Both programs are beginning to wrap up for the summer:

  • The new MB release will be made using enhancements to the release process made by Sonal.
  • It will include a complete reworking of temperament and mode by Nirav.
  • There are significant performance enhancement brought to us by Shreya
  • Vanshika has refactored much of the code to make maintenance much much more tractable.
  • Abhnish has made us much closer to being compliant to the needs of screen readers and touch-only interfaces.
  • Hari's work on the git backend to MB. It is lovely and powerful
  • Stuti is doing on Lesson Plans ... again stunning.)
  • MBv4 has turned a corner as well thanks to the work of Syed and Parth -- check out the masonry approach to bricks -- it is really exciting.

On the Sugar front...

  • Ashutosh has a really cool app for creating Sugar activities on demand. It is thoughtful and really works well.
  • Vyagh is wrapping up his work on reflection which is resulting in some long-needed improvements to the journal.
  • NSA Raiyyan has overhauled Speak to make it really work well in languages other than English. And he is revamping the speak functionality in MB too.
  • Noaman has been working on Sugar AI... we'll finally have a coherent way to support AI across all of our projects.

Re live presentations of GSoC and DMP projects on YouTube, Devin is looking at the dates August 29 and August 31. He'll firm things up soon.

Mentors: you should be getting notices from Google re final evals next week.

All the GSoC mentees are requested to submit the final evaluation on time And kindly push your final report to archives/2026 on the sugarlabs/GSoC repo
