GUI shutdown
- drag mouse to top right corner
- screen should compress and give you hidden objects
- top right you should see the icon for your user
- click on your user
- select shutdown
shutdown via terminal
If the GUI fails to respond to shutdown requests open the terminal and type:
su -
shutdown -h now
