== A SoaS Hardware Effort ==

This attempt has been started shortly after the SoaS beta release on April 22nd. We're trying to track hardware compatibility with various SoaS versions here.

=== What's this about ===

The overall goal of this effort is to gather information about issues with various hardware configurations using [[Sugar_on_a_Stick|SoaS]]. So if you just came across an issue or want to help us by providing your hardware specs, please follow these instructions.

=== What we're doing ===

We're trying to use the [http://www.smolts.org Smolt] project to keep information about the various systems. Smolt is a hardware profiler and has been introduced with [http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/Smolt Fedora 7]. Since then, also openSUSE has joined the project. We're working on creating an identifier for SoaS in the Smolt database.

Smolt basically helps you to submit your hardware information to a place, where people like us developers can check them out, for example if you encounter any issues. Smolt development is hosted [https://fedorahosted.org/smolt/ here] and if you're worried about your privacy, you can have a look at Smolt's [https://fedorahosted.org/smolt/wiki/PrivacyPolicy privacy policy] here. Note that you can remove your hardware information at any time - instructions for this are also listed below!

=== How to proceed ===

So. What's next? First of all, you'll need to download smolt. It will be included in the upcoming snapshots of SoaS, but if you're using the beta, you'll need to open the terminal and run (as root): ''yum install smolt''

That's already it. Now you're ready to submit your hardware specs. For this, just call (also as root): ''smoltSendProfile''

It will ask you again if you're sure and will also give you a link to your profile then. Please keep that!

If you want to remove your information, just type in the terminal (again as root): ''smoltDeleteProfile''

=== Help us out ===

Now that you've a link to your hardware specs, what do you do with that? If you're interested in helping us with testing SoaS on various hardware configurations, please add yourself to the table below.

{| border=1 cellpadding=3 style="border: 1px solid white; border-collapse: collapse; background: #e3e4e5;"
|-style="background:#787878; color: white;"
| '''name''' || '''version tested''' || '''link to smolt'''
|-
| add yourself here || ||

=== Work in progress ===

We're working on getting Smolt integrated in a Sugar Activity to ease the process of submitting the information. Once SoaS will be listed as an own distribution in Smolt, we might also ask you to rate your experience with it there.
