Okay, we had enough candidates that an election was not needed. --Quozl (talk) 21:51, 15 August 2017 (EDT)
I believe the same was true the previous year. I'll again try to find the appropriate thread on the lists. --Walter (talk) 07:28, 16 August 2017 (EDT)
Thanks. I've drawn together the data after reviewing three years of minutes. Also sometimes an election for a year was delayed into the next year. Several pages updated. --Quozl (talk) 20:28, 16 August 2017 (EDT)

Appointed vs self-selected committees

I noticed that at it was recently added (15 Aug 2017) that SLOB would appoint members to the election committee. I am not sure why that change was made. SLOB appoints liaisons to the committees, but in the past, AFAIK, the committees themselves managed their own membership. --Walter (talk) 12:04, 11 September 2017 (EDT)

That was Dave on 8th August 2016, on the Sugar Labs/Members page, see https://wiki.sugarlabs.org/index.php?title=Sugar_Labs/Members&diff=99274&oldid=98502 and as a result both methods of selection were offered,
Then on 4th March 2017 my edits noticed the conflict and removed the self-selected option, presuming Dave meant to change both but neglected one, see https://wiki.sugarlabs.org/index.php?title=Sugar_Labs/Members&diff=100029&oldid=99876
Then on 15th August the parts of Sugar Labs/Members relating to the committee itself were moved here to Sugar Labs/Governance, see https://wiki.sugarlabs.org/index.php?title=Sugar_Labs/Members&diff=prev&oldid=100590
Now it is in one place and easy to change back, so I shall assume Dave was misinformed. --Quozl (talk) 16:53, 11 September 2017 (EDT)

Procedure Notes

Procedure Notes:

01. All Membership and Elections Committee members have write access to the Sugar Labs member's list.

02. The Sugar Labs member's list is kept both on the sugarlabs-vote mailing list (with emails) and on the Sugar Labs wiki page (with out emails). Additionally, all Sugar Labs Oversight Board members have a copy of the file containing member's names and emails.

03. The sugarlabs-vote mailing list has the purpose of serving the Membership and Elections Committee to maintain the Sugar Labs member's list and therefore list configuration should be kept as follows: Sugarlabs-vote Mailing list Configuration

List's administrator: members AT sugarlabs
Subscription Require approval - require list administrator approval for subscriptions
Emergency moderation of all list traffic.ON [currently this is not a list for communication]
private_roster (privacy): Set [list of subscribers is protected by member or admin password authentication]
obscure_addresses (privacy):Set [member email addresses to be transformed when they are presented on list web pages (both in text and as links), so they're not trivially recognizable as email addresses. The intention is to prevent the addresses from being snarfed up by automated web scanners for use by spammers.]

This procedure was suggested by Dave Crossland and with the configuration set, it fits our requirements for all Committee members to have write access to the Sugar Labs member's list.
