Project highlights

  • There's been a lot of progress with MBv3, and MBv4 has started to gain momentum. There's been a lot of new contributions, which has meant reviewing expectations of new contributions and how to communicate those expectations.
  • Dev: presented SL at the open source summit (LPC) last week.
  • GTK4: We did see a lot of progress this year, it was hard to keep a track however, but the speed at which we developed things on shell and activities was really impressive.
  • The ability to record interactive projects as sheet music is reenabled in MB again. It is pretty cool that you can compose music by playing a game. Or log your game play as music.
  • https://super-8.educa.juegos/?id=pixel_haiku is the latest project from Sebastian.

DMP

Wrapping up final dmp formalities. Closure event will be online end of October.

AWS

MostlyK reports: "I haven't been closely updated on the AWS/infra and Sugar-AI work over the past couple of months(sugar-ai has been overwhelmed with PRs and Issues that we don't even need), but I can sync with everyone and put together a report this week.

"I remember last year, around this time I proposed we can use these GPUs to have some small models that can do Audio to MIDI, Songs to MIDI project and other music related stuff which can be helpful, these runs small ML models that we can deploy at a much cheaper price than LLMs.

"We could also explore models for instrument separation, audio-to-sheet-music conversion, ASR, handwriting and equation recognition, webcam-based gesture recognition, OCR for educational material. (I have been playing with some of these things this year)"

Let's use our credits from our existing Apps. -WB

Expensive was a problem last time, but the lack of guardrails was also a bigger issue. I think we have those in place, but we ought to review them.

Would be wise to setup billing alerts which AWS provides.
