On Ubuntu (and probably Debian): make sure to do "update-alternatives --config git" to make this command work (jhbuild also depends on "git" pointing to the right thing)

On Ubuntu (and probably Debian): you may have to do "update-alternatives --config git" to make git point to git-scm (instead of the unrelated gitfm command).
