The new ad-hoc networking facilities allows you to connect with others over wireless in an ad-hoc manner without wireless infrastructure, like an access point. This is the so called "under a tree scenario". OLPC provided for similar functionality with XO hardware based on a mesh network. This is the so called "under a tree scenario" where children can work, play and learn collaboratively in any place imaginable, without requiring any wireless access point (which is typically only found in the school).
