Ubuntu and ubuntu-based distributions
- It is Recommended you use Trisquel as a replacement for your Ubuntu install:
- Ubuntu has not updated their repositories for sugar since version 0.90 when the Ubuntu Sugar Remix Team stopped work.
- For Sugar only look at Trisquel Toast

Sugar Desktop 0.94 on Ubuntu 11.04
- Look at sweets-distribution for sugar 0.88 in Ubuntu 10.04 1nd 10.10
- Click this link ^
- Sweets Distribution is easier to use for Ubuntu' and its Derivatives (Adding an additional Repository via apt commands) as the packages are pre-configured, ready to use.)
- (Advanced installation skills required.)

Installation Suggestions
- Install Ubuntu 11.04
- Download link: http://releases.ubuntu.com/natty/
- Log in to "Gnome-classic" (select it from the drop-down menu on the bottom bar of the login screen.)
- copy-paste these commands to Ubuntu terminal one line at a time:
sudo apt-add-repository 'deb http://download.sugarlabs.org/packages/SweetsDistribution:/0.94/Ubuntu-11.04/ ./' wget -qO- http://download.sugarlabs.org/packages/SweetsDistribution:/0.94/Ubuntu-11.04/Release.key | sudo apt-key add - sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install sweets-distribution
- The main menu will now have Education/Sugar
- Congratulations you have now installed sugar 0.94
To get sugar to run full screen
- Menu:
- Applications/Education/Sugar
- Right click on sugar XO
- "Add this launcher to the desktop" - chose this option
- right click on the XO that is now on the desktop
- "Properties"
- Command: sweets-sugar-emulator -f - Add the -f for full screen (Close)
- Now when you click the XO sugar will start full screen and not in a window.
VirtualBox Appliance to import
- This is exactly the same as achieved with the Installation Suggestions above
Sugar Desktop 0.90 on Ubuntu 11.10
NOTE: This version uses previous Sugar release. Collaboration is broken
- Sugar 0.90 is NOT RECOMMENDED.
- Install sucrose-0.90
sudo apt-get install sucrose-0.90
Only comes with pippy and turtleart. You can download more Activities from [activites.sugarlabs.org ] from outside of Sugar and install each .xo bundle individually in a terminal with:
sugar-install-bundle activity.xo
To run Sugar fullscreen:
- Go to the menu Applications->Education->sugar
- Drag and drop the Sugar icon to the desktop
- Right-click on Sugar icon and choose Properties
- Change the command to:
sugar-emulator -f
If you need to turn off screensaver and power management:
xset s off xset -dpms
Sugar Desktop 0.90 on edubuntu 11.10
Sugar 0.90 is NOT RECOMMENDED
Note: classic gnome fallback is available on install
- Install sucrose-0.90
sudo apt-get install sucrose-0.90

Download [the Surf activity ] and put it in a USB key. Within Sugar, copy the bundle to the Journal to install it. Start Surf and point it to [activites.sugarlabs.org ] to get other activities.

- Ubuntu based and works well. Trisquel 4.1 is based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Trisquel 5, on Ubuntu 11.04.
