Thomas suggested writing to microSD card using [https://github.com/MartinBriza/MediaWriter/releases Fedora Media Writer] (FMW), which is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, Fedora Linux, and Ubuntu Linux.  Here are his test steps;
