Wiki Basics

  • **/PageCreation** - Guidance on creating pages on this wiki
  • **/WritingGuide** - Writing style and conventions that are encouraged on the wiki
  • **DocumentationTemplate** - Recommended page structure

Wiki Markup

Further Guidance

The best way to get involved in the wiki team is to monitor new content as it is added through the Recent Changes link in the Sugar Labs menu. Check to see:

  • Is the new information correct?
  • Is the new information in the correct place?
  • Should the new information be merged with an existing page?

Wiki Infrastructure

  • add svg upload support
  • Wiki-barnraising, harmonization of familiar and useful templates, plug-ins, extensions (e.g. traclink,etc.) from OLPC wiki.
  • InterWiki Map, at least to OLPC Wiki. Laptop: --> http://wiki.laptop.org/go/$1
  • It would be good to get some countervandalism software (bot) running. User:Cjl has done some analysis of the vandalism (and countervandalism) actions on wiki.l.o and is interested in coordinating an effort that would cover both wikis with some automated countervandalism tools

Synchronize plug ins and templates

  • Trac related
  • Iframe
  • Semantic MediaWiki

Organization

Our challenge is how to organize the wiki so that communities can find the information they need.

First Level

Teams are the first level of organization for the wiki. Teams are listed on the navigation bar.

Second Level

The second level is the standard team header.

Team Home   ·   Join   ·   Contacts   ·   Resources   ·   FAQ   ·   Roadmap   ·   To Do   ·   Meetings

  • Home --> Team introduction
  • Getting involved --> How to start participating in a team
  • Contacts --> How to contact the team
  • Resources --> Team resource
  • FAQ --> Frequently Asked Questions
  • Todo --> Tasks the team is working on
  • Meeting --> Agenda for upcoming meeting and logs of past meeting

Policies

Administrative privs are generally granted based on a need to use them to do "something good" for the wiki. At present, this is accomplished in a fairly informal manner, leaving a message on the discussion page or contacting one or more bureaucrats via wiki-mail would be a good place to start.

Other Community wikis

Example of how other communities are using their Wikis.
