Sugar Network is a part of [[Platform_Team/Harmonic_Distribution|Harmonic Distribution]] effort.
* Support social activity of student and teachers creating the possibility of close integration with the learning process;

* Connect students and teachers with the rest of Sugar community thereby enabling, for example, more direct feedback from the field or bootstrapping of localization by local language communities (with upstreaming to Pootle).

The goal will be accomplished by:

* Providing a user interface on the Network participant side to read and write [[Sugar_Network/Concept#Resources|various types of content]];

* The regular activity in the Network will require connection to a server, to the global one (on-line case) or to a server located in schools (off-line case);

* The limited functionality will be provided for server-less case, e.g., students are out of a school.

The Sugar Network should be useful for both kinds of environments, off-line and on-line.

This work was initially started by the Peru Local Lab to address the needs identified during work on Puno pilot program.

Summary

The major goals Sugar Network is trying to achieve are:

  • Convenient way to get access to various types of the content for Sugar Network participants.
  • Provide such access on different levels of network connectivity, i.e., Internet connection, connection to a school network, offline mode when people have only their computers.
  • On all connectivity levels, support social activity between Sugar Network participants, when people can share their problems, ideas and opinions within the Network.
  • Provide support from content creators to content users.
  • Use all, previously mentioned, features to support educational process for individual users and the whole deployments.
