Sugar Labs is applying to Google Summer of Code (GSoC) for 2016.

Upcoming deadlines

Important GSoC 2016 Dates and Deadlines

March 14 - 25
Mentors and Org Admins review student draft proposals and give students feedback on their proposals.
March 26 - April 10
Review all submitted student proposals with your org and consider how many you want to select and how many you can handle.
April 11
Deadline for Org Admins to submit slot requests.
April 13
Slot allocations are announced.
April 14 - 20
Org Admins select the proposals to become student projects. At least 1 mentor must be assigned to each project before it can be selected.
April 22
Accepted GSoC students/projects are announced.
April 23 - May 22
Community Bonding Period.
May 23
Coding begins.
June 20 - 27
Midterm evaluations of students.
August 23 - 29
Final evaluations of students.
Mid/Late October 2016
Mentor Summit (dates TBD), 2 mentors from each org are invited to attend (unless an evaluation is missed) - more details in a couple of months.

The most important job of all! Sugar Labs is looking forward to your contribution. To begin, we strongly recommend orienting yourself with the Sugar Labs codebase. Be sure to visit http://bugs.sugarlabs.org/.

Please add your proposal to the wiki on a page called:

Summer_of_Code/2016/Proposal_name

where Proposal_name is the name of your proposal. Please copy this proposal template.

You also need to apply on the Google Summer of Code website.

You can directly benefit a new software developer's coding competency and confidence levels while contributing to Sugar Labs and developing your own first-line management skills. Here you can look for more development ideas –

  • Coordinating SL's application to the GSoC program as a mentorship organization,

  • Supervising mentors, which largely entails making sure mid-term and end-of-summer reports are handed in on time,
